The Three Lions to Start UEFA Euro 2028 Journey at Manchester City’s Etihad Stadium
The English squad will initiate their UEFA Euro 2028 adventure at the the home of Manchester City, assuming they achieve the expected passage for a championship staged throughout most of the United Kingdom and the Ireland.
Manchester City’s home ground has not staged an English men’s fixture since the spring of 2016, when Turkey were overcome 2-1 in a warm-up game, but is highly likely to stage the Three Lions for their inaugural game on June 10, 2028.
The English side are scheduled to play their concluding group fixtures at Wembley, but, should they win their group, their round of 16 match would take place at the Newcastle stadium. Placing second would mean starting the elimination stage at Everton’s ground.
Championship Launch and Protest
The event was launched at an event in central London on Wednesday evening. Senior figures from Uefa and the host football associations were confronted as they arrived the location by around fifty protesters, who demanded the Israeli team to be removed from international football because of the conflict in Gaza.
Placards were raised with slogans saying “Show Israel the red card” and “You are complicit”, while demonstrators called out: “Kick Israel out.”
Tournament Timeline
The first match of the tournament will be held at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff, on a Friday in June 2028, a fixture that will feature the Dragons if they qualify.
Wembley Stadium will host the two semi-final matches and the final, which will be held on July 9, 2028 with a commencement at late afternoon.
It is expected that an earlier start, which will also be adopted for European club finals from next season, will attract families and help connect with a wider spectrum of fans.
Qualifying Teams
The Irish team are scheduled to play their opening match at the Dublin stadium and the Scottish team would do the same at Glasgow’s Hampden Park.
Each host nation’s squad will take part in the preliminary stage; two reserved places will be set aside for any that fail to qualify for the tournament through that route.
Venues and Playoffs
The Birmingham venue and Tottenham Hotspur Stadium finalize the nine tournament locations. All will hold at least one knockout match, with the last eight held at the national stadium of each host.
The qualification draw will be held in Belfast, which was excluded as a tournament location last year when it became clear the Belfast stadium could not be renovated in time, on a date in late 2026.
