That Gruesome Animated Movie Ending That Lingers Audiences
Out of all the mature animated films I’ve personally viewed, nothing has remained with me quite like the terror-laced finale of a graphically gory as well as deeply subversive film from 2022 The Unicorn Wars.
In 2015’s, the Spain-based filmmaker developed a grim, bleak , frequently brutal world that included some tiny , forlorn hints of optimism.
While Unicorn Wars appears as it originated from a desire to advance animation even more, the filmmaker stated that it was rather a try to convey a universal, cross-cultural message regarding “the common origin of every conflict.”
That message is communicated through a band of brightly hued teddy bears , obviously inspired by a popular line of lovable figures.
Growing up in a society centered on aggression and the defense industry, numerous the bears are obsessed with slaughtering unicorns, due to a holy book that claims them they used to be masters of the forest, until these creatures expelled them.
A few haven’t fully accepted the brainwashing, and choose to sample substances and engage sexually in the woods.
Unlike their cuddly equivalents, these vivid animals show genitals , obvious sex drives.
For a particular particularly cruel, cynical bear, Bluey, the war with the unicorns becomes a route to power — and especially to authority over his more tender, more compassionate sibling the bear Tubby.
Bluey is a bully , an obvious antisocial figure , and as horror takes over his group and kills his fellow soldiers sequentially, he seizes progressively control for himself, via progressively gory, harmful methods.
Simultaneously, the unicorns are enduring their own nightmare, through an expanding, destructive monster in their habitat.
“In the early stages, it appears as a comedy,” the director commented. “However it becomes a more dramatic and sad film. And ultimately, it transforms into a terrifying movie.”
Unicorn Wars begins feeling a bit like one of the most playful features by a legendary filmmaker, which find a naughty glee in letting drawn beings swear, shoot each other, or have intimate relations.
Afterward it evolves into something more like a more grim work from that artist, featuring progressively graphic violence , a palpable connection to genuine tragedy of conflict.
By the end, it becomes a full-on Grand Guignol bloodbath.
The fear which makes this a perfect Halloween viewing begins a lot earlier than one might expect.
Unicorn Wars is ideal for the hardcore gorehounds, for lovers of graphic films who wish to view something they have not watched previously, and who can handle a plot that offers no restraint.
See it in a dark room free from interruptions, and that ending will crawl into your mind and linger.
