Slot Maintains He Feels Safe and Has Liverpool's Support Following PSV Eindhoven Loss
Arne Slot conceded that it was understandable for questions to be asked about his position following another convincing defeat versus PSV Eindhoven.
Liverpool suffered their 9th defeat in 12 games, representing the team's poorest run since being demoted in 1953-54.
They were outplayed by the Dutch league title holders on a tough evening at their home ground.
“I feel secure, I'm fine, I've received significant backing from the top,” Slot remarked.
“It would be great to turn it around and secure a win of course but when you're in a managerial role and not doing well then it's typical that doubts arise.”
He continued, “I am OK with my position. It is not the first time I’ve been in a challenging situation but it's crucial that we improved our results.”
Conversations with The Board
When asked to expand on his discussions with the team officials, Slot revealed:
“We communicate frequently. They assist to the team and to me and we have those conversations but they aren't calling me constantly of the day to say they have faith in me.”
He added, “In the normal exchanges I perceive the trust. However I haven’t spoken to them since this game so far so let’s see.”
Familiar Failings and Squad Response
Slot lamented known shortcomings from his team in their European defeat, namely wasted chances and conceding too easily.
Meanwhile, player Curtis Jones was more forthright in his evaluation of the current crisis.
“I don’t have the solutions. Honestly, I do not. I’m saying that to all,” Jones remarked.
“It is unacceptable. I don’t even need to wait to consider it. I’m past getting mad inside. I've reached the stage currently where I simply lack the words.”
He added, “It’s hard because I play for the side I follow. I’m a fan, and I've watched this club all my life.”
“For many years, I haven’t experienced a Liverpool team enduring a phase like this with outcomes so bad.”
He finished, “However we continue to wear the crest on our chest. And until it is removed, we’re always going to battle.”
“We will attempt to get this team return to its rightful place, demonstrate to all once more what Liverpool stands for and why it's known as the best team in the world.”
“But right now, we're in trouble and we have to turn it around.”
