Grief as Popular South African DJ Gunned Down in the City of Johannesburg.
A renowned South African media personality and entertainer has been shot dead in the metropolis of Johannesburg, triggering widespread grief across a nation grappling with persistent crime.
Warrick Stock, popularly known as DJ Warras, was gunned down in the downtown area on the afternoon of Tuesday.
Police said the forty-year-old presenter was approached by a trio of assailants, one of whom shot at him before escaping on foot.
The purpose of the incident is unknown and no suspects have been apprehended are in custody, police said.
How It Happened
Authorities indicated that Stock was targeted as he was leaving a building close to the Carlton Centre.
He had been present for hours at the building overseeing the installation of security systems, which had been controversially occupied by unknown people, as per local media.
"It is alleged the victim was approached by three unidentified men after he parked his car, and they opened fire at him before fleeing the scene on foot," authorities confirmed.
Surveillance tape reportedly depicted a man with dreadlocks and clad in what resembled a security uniform opening fire on Stock before making his escape.
The DJ sought to escape after he was hit but succumbed to his injuries a short distance away.
Police added that Stock had an gun that was not fired and it was not a robbery during the attack.
Key evidence, like spent shells, were found at the scene.

"We know they traveled on foot after the attack, and officers have been attempting to locate them to establish their location," added an official.

His family member, Nicole Stock, expressed the loved ones are reeling to come to terms with the loss.
"I am in shock. I don't have words," she said.
"It is clear he was a champion for numerous individuals. He addressed issues courageously about topics not many people were ready to discuss. This is a tremendous loss."
She appealed to the public to avoid sharing graphic images from the scene, explaining this was an incredibly difficult time, particularly for Stock's three sons.
