Ex- Physician Faces Sexual Assault Allegations Against 38 Individuals in His Care

Prosecutors have announced that a ex- doctor stands accused of performing assaults against thirty-eight individuals who were patients.

Details of the Serious Charges

Nathaniel Spencer from Birmingham faces allegations of numerous acts of sexual assault – comprising some against children younger than 13 – between 2017 to 2021.

One senior CPS official said, “Our prosecutors have diligently worked to support a thorough and intricate police inquiry, carefully reviewing the evidence to establish that there is a strong case to proceed to trial and that it is in the public interest.”

The Police Inquiry

The charges follow what investigators described as a “complex investigation” into reported assaults at medical facilities: the Royal Stoke university hospital and Russells Hall hospital.

The defendant is due to appear at the local magistrates' court on 20 January.

The charging documents outline the 45 charges include:

  • 15 counts of assault.
  • Seventeen counts of penetrative assault.
  • 9 counts of assault on a minor under thirteen.
  • Three counts of assault of a child under 13 by penetration.
  • 1 count of attempted penetrative assault.
