Adult Swim's Premier New Show of 2025 Gets a Major Renewal for Seasons 2 and 3.
In October of last year, Adult Swim saw the return of its unconventional hit, Smiling Friends. But, later that same month, the network launched a fresh animated series with a markedly softer feel. Haha, You Clowns proved to be heartwarming and calm, reminiscent of a cartoon version of a contemplative talk show. During a period often characterized by cynicism, this show's sincerity found an audience and helped it become a breakout hit.
A Major Commitment
In mid-December, Adult Swim revealed exciting news: Haha, You Clowns has been renewed for a further two seasons. This gives creator Joe Cappa significant creative freedom to expand upon the world of the Campbell family. The show centers on three well-mannered teenage brothers whose defining trait is their deep love for their single father, with Cappa portraying for all four central characters.
"I’m so grateful to the viewers of the show who gave *Haha, You Clowns* a chance and helped it grow," stated Cappa. "I am overjoyed that I get to spend more time in the Campbell household for the foreseeable future."
Network Praise
The official statement also included commendation from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "radically heartfelt and uniquely eerie." He specifically highlighted the fans who found the show and championed its uniquely offbeat appeal.
"All of you got behind this new show, rooted for it on social media, and grew it week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," noted Ouweleen. "In the words: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"
A Different Kind of Comedy
When it first aired, Haha, You Clowns was described as "a gentle counterpart" to other adult animated fare. There’s something unexpectedly cozy about following this charming family navigate their daily lives.
Previously, creator Joe Cappa stated his goal to move the comedy genre beyond its current sarcastic tone. He attributed this trend to the rise of certain blockbuster franchises.
“We're stuck in a cycle of irony that we can't get ourselves out of,” said Cappa. “It feels as if we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for 10 years, and we must laugh at something different now. It's time for comedy to grow.”
Future Seasons
With this renewal, with Haha, You Clowns guaranteed to return, Cappa has the opportunity to help usher in that very evolution. At a minimum, the renewal promises audiences more opportunities to enjoy the warm glow of the unique Campbell clan.
The final episode of Season 1 of Haha, You Clowns will premiere on December 21st. The entire series is available for streaming on HBO Max.
